 瀬戸市は、濃尾平野の東に広がる尾張丘陵の一角にあって、中部 経済圏の中核をなす名古屋市の北東約20㎞に位置しています。丘陵 地帯の瀬戸層群と呼ばれる地層からは、良質の陶土やガラス原料の 珪砂が採取され、古くからやきもののまちとして栄えてきました。

Seto Cit y is situated in one corner of the Owari hills that spread to the east of Noubi Pl ain, about 20 kilometer s nor theast of Nagoya, which forms the core of the Chubu economic region. High quality clay and silica sand, the raw material of glass, can be mined from strata called Seto Group in hills, which enabled our city to prosper as a potter y capital for ages.

発 刊のごあいさつ

 瀬戸市は昭和4年10月1日、愛知県下5番目の市として誕生し、2019年10月に

は市制90周年を迎えます。

 良質で豊かな陶土と自然環境、そして先人の創造と努力の賜物により、陶都と

して千年以上の歴史を築いてきました。平成29年4月には、瀬戸市を含む日本六

古窯の産地が提唱する「きっと恋する六古窯−日本生まれ日本育ちのやきもの産

地−」のストーリーが「日本遺産」として認定され、その歴史に名誉ある称号を得

ました。

 平成29年度にスタートした「第6次瀬戸市総合計画」において、まちの将来像

を「住みたいまち 誇れるまち 新しいせと」と掲げ、これからの10年を見据えたさ

まざまな取り組みを始めています。この将来像には、多くの方が瀬戸市に愛着を

持ち、住みたい・住み続けたいと思っていただけるまちになること、そして、伝統と

文化を受け継ぎ、市民や企業、地域がともに新しいまちづくりに挑戦する未来へ

の思いを込めています。

 この市勢要覧は、現在の瀬戸市の姿とこれからの将来像をまとめたものです。

本市を知っていただく一助となれば幸いです。

Seto City was founded on October 1, 1929 as the 5th city of Aichi Prefecture, and celebrates its 90th anniversar y as a municipal organization in October 2019.

The creativity and efforts of our forefathers combined with high quality and abundant clay and natural environment have helped us build a history of over 1,000 years as a pottery capital. The story that recounts the tale of Seto and Japan’s Six Ancient Kiln regional producers, "Six Ancient Kilns to Love: Pottery Born and Raised in Japan” was recognized as Japan Heritage in April 2017 and given a title that honors this history.

Since 2 017, the cit y has promoted a future vision:“the cit y you w ant to live in, the cit y you are proud of, the new Seto” in the 6th Seto Cit y Comprehensive Plan, and we have started various initiatives aiming at the coming decade.

This guide depicts Seto City as it is now and as we envision it in the future. We hope the guide helps you get to know Seto City.
